Never picked up a spatula before? Don’t have an NVQ in beauty therapy? Then this Beginners Waxing Course is for you. Our course covers the various types of hair removal, anatomy and physiology, skin disorders and diseases, contra-actions and contra-indications, reception, consultation, ventilation, technique,
male waxing and aftercare.
The course also teaches everything you need to know about carrying out a professional waxing service on different areas of the body including legs, bikini line, underarms and facial waxing. Suitable for
complete novices and anyone going right back to basics with their waxing skills, this course focusses heavily on practical training.
ESSENTIAL NEED-TO-KNOWS
- You don't need any existing beauty therapy qualifications to enrol on this course. It is suitable for complete beginners as well as therapists wishing to add waxing to their existing treatments.
- You will be required to complete the pre-course theory provided before attending the practical training day.
- This course is IPHM Accredited, giving you the knowledge and practical skills required to offer professional waxing treatments to your clients.
- During your training you will learn how to confidently and safely use two different types of wax - Hot Wax and Strip Wax, including when and where each type should be used.
- You must be prepared to work practically during the course and may be required to act as a model for another student. Please let us know beforehand if you are unable or unwilling to be waxed.
- This course covers professional body waxing techniques. Female and male intimate waxing courses are available separately to book.

Emma
I’m Emma, owner of Cinder’s Cove and Cinder’s Cove Training School in Nottingham. I have 20 years of waxing experience, including 7 years of experience working for and with nkd ( ) waxing. This includes several years working as a senior waxing therapist and trainer at nkd ( ) waxing Nottingham’s former Pelham Street salon, and several years working closely with nkd ( ) founder Rebecca Dowdeswell, on the growth and development of my own specialist waxing business, Cinder’s Cove.
I’m an experienced therapist and trainer with a real passion for passing on my knowledge and helping students build both their confidence and practical skills. I like my training days to be friendly, relaxed and very hands-on, so students feel comfortable asking questions and get as much practical experience as possible.
I’m so excited to be now running nkd ( )’s specialist wax courses out of my own salon in Beeston, on the outskirts of Nottingham and I’d love to help you become a better waxer. FAQS
Each course has their own demo model. And all students will get a minimum of 1 full practice model for themselves (usually a fellow training course attendee).
For an additional fee, we are able to provide additional models for further one-to-one supervised practice.. The cost of this is £35 per model and all additional models must be booked and paid for in full in advance, at the time of booking your course, to enable us to source the required number of models. You can also book and pay for an additional model if you are unable or unwilling to act as a model yourself (in this scenario, the model will replace you).
To protect ourselves and you, nkd has high standards. If we do not feel you have reached the required level of waxing on the day of your course, we are sorry but we will be unable to certify you. In that instance, you will be given one month to go away, practice your techniques and return to nkd to be re-assessed. Unfortunately, we will not be able to refund you the cost of your course or any associated monies if you fail your re-assessment.
For this reason, we advise that you ensure you are already proficient and confident in traditional “pot and spatula” type waxing before booking onto an advanced waxing course.
Payment is required in full at the time of the course booking.
If you cancel up to 4 weeks before your course, you are entitled to a 100% refund. If you cancel up to 2 weeks before your course, you are entitled to a 50% refund of the cost of the course, unless you manage to find a replacement student for the same course date. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks’ notice, we will be unable to refund the cost of your course, unless you manage to find a replacement student for the same course date. In these cases, we reserve the right to charge a £15 administration fee.
Note that the following occurrences are also non-refundable:
- If you turn up without the required amount of hair and without a model who has the required amount of hair and you are not allowed to participate in the course as a result.
- If you fail to pass the course on the day or when you return at a later date to be reassessed.
- If you turn up to a course without holding the minimum level of qualifications for that course and you are unable to complete the course as a result.
Maximum class sizes will be usually be 3 students to give everyone the closest possible attention. nkd feels very strongly that class sizes should be kept small/the relevant number of trainers are on hand to ensure that every student gets as much attention as possible. We recommend that you think very carefully before enrolling on any waxing training courses which accept more than 6 – 8 students, unless a second trainer will be present.
Lunch is not provided. There are lots of supermarkets, cafes and bars near to our salons and training centres where you can buy lunch from.
Please wear normal professional salon working attire, e.g. a tunic or something similar.
Yes, all training students are required to act as a model for their fellow training course attendees. This means that you will wax your fellow students and they will wax you. If you are unable or unwilling to act as a model on the day of your training course, then you must pay a £35 surcharge which will enable us to find a replacement model to stand in for you (so one of your fellow training students will wax this external model instead of waxing you). Please note that it is a strict condition of our wax training courses that you do act as a model and that you have the required regrowth.
